MAC Makeup Master Gordon Espinet
I’ve been playing with make up since I was 12 years old. I’ve done it professionally for more than three decades, but I still love to watch other amazingly talented Makeup Masters at work. They make it seem so effortless, they share their favorite techniques and products and inspire us to experiment. It’s only makeup and it does wash off.
It seems that everyone I work with seems to be totally fascinated with eyelashes! Lash Junkies are plentiful. What is our fascination with eyelashes, real or faux? It makes us feel sexy, youthful, glamorous. But, we don’t always have the time or the desire to apply false eyelashes. I still swear by three coats of a real great mascara. One coat just won’t do it.
I haven’t tried MAC’s new Haute & Naughty Mascara, but I love what Makeup Artist, Gordon Espinet does so effortlessly. Not only is this a great video to show you how quickly you can change from one look to another, you see just how easy it is to create that sought after cat’s eye liner effect.
The Magenta Madness and Sushi Flower Pink may be a little too edgy for some, but you can model this look with colors that you are already using, and update your look by just shifting the way you line your eyes. www.maccosmetics.com

It’s 3 1/2 Kisses for Temptu Airbrush System

The TEMPTU Airbrush System
Makeup Artist, Jamie Pagett, reviews the TEMPTU Airbrush System and gives it 3 1/2 RLR Kisses.
The perfect tool for makeup enthusiasts looking for professional airbrush results at home. The system is compact and light and can easily slip into your countertop makeup collection. This consumer version of the professional unit features foundation, blush, and highlight “pods” which eliminate the trouble of mixing shades and cleaning the system with each use. With 12 shades of foundation, it should be easy to match your skin tone. However, be sure to go to a Sephora to have one of the consultants help you pick your closest shade. Th
e system emits a gentle mist and the pressure is adjustable though I keep mine cranked at the highest setting. I would like to see a little more power, but the current system does get the job done in about five minutes plus drying time.
The pods can be a little tricky to remove and replace and if you choose to use the TEMPTU blush, you will need to make a switch during your makeup application. I find that if I apply my usual concealer before airbrushing, the TEMPTU system provides nearly seamless coverage of my dark circles. While I do like the foundation pods, I found that the Retouch Foundation was significantly lighter in color than the airbrushed version and did not produce similar results. Because the system produces more sheer coverage, I would recommend using a silicon-based primer (I like Smashbox Photo Finish Color Correcting Foundation Primer) to keep your look fresh for hours. And be sure to let the product dry on your face before applying other makeup or powders. The system is not inexpensive by any means and with replacement pods priced around $30, regular use of the system could be pricey if you prefer heavier coverage. However, because Sephora (which is the only TEMPTU retailer) offers exchanges and refunds for 60 days after product purchase, it could be worth the initial investment to experiment for up to two months. Overall, I would only recommend the product to makeup enthusiast who truly enjoy experimenting with their look and who enjoy taking time each day to create a flawless face.

Finding the Perfect Red Lipstick

How do you find the perfect red lipstick? Try them all! Red lipsticks have blue-based and orange-based undertones. You never know which one is going to look best on you until you try. Slip on the lipstick and if you see your face come to life, you’ve got a match. If it drains your color and makes you look old say, “No thanks. I’ll pass.” Look for newer formulas of red that aren’t too matte and have just the right amount of sheen. The heavier the pigment, the more intense the color. If you want to start slowly, go for a translucent red. You can test the lipstick on the back of your hand to see how sheer it really is. If you can still see your skin, it’s sheer. If it looks flat, you’ve got more pigment. When in doubt, ask one of the makeup artist working at the counter. They know the product line and can help you find the perfect red for you. Red Lipstick Beauty Tip: Prep lips first. Use a toothbrush and a little baking powder to exfoliate your lips of any dry or chapped skin. Coat with a light lip balm to moisturize lips. Blot excess lip balm before applying red lipstick. Keep it simple. Fresh looking skin, eye’s light and effortless. A few swipes of mascara and a quick hit of eyeliner smudged and tucked into top lash-line works great.
